The MACVSO is looking for a highly motivated person to become the Association's Executive Director.

This is a full time position with the ability to work remotely. Some travel is required, mostly within the bounds of Minnesota, but there could be limited travel outside the state.

Executive Director Job Description

Reporting to the MACVSO Executive Board of Directors (E-Board), the Executive Director (ED) has overall operational responsibility for MACVSO’s programs and execution of its mission. She or he has both internal and external facing responsibilities, ranging from stakeholder engagement to day-to-day management of operations. The ED supports individual members and committees of the E-Board in their efforts to chart MACVSO’s future growth and strategic response to an ever-increasing demand for the organization’s programs and services.
 
Duties for the Executive Director include, but are not limited to:

  • Oversee and streamline daily operations
  • Establish, present, and maintain a strategic plan for MACVSO with goals and measurable objectives
  • Prepare annual comprehensive business plan and budget
  • Manage, optimize, and report financials with Treasurer approval:
    • Accounts payable/receivable
    • tax compliance
    • membership dues
    • conference fees
  • Draft and enforce approved organizational policies and procedures
  • Communicate and build positive relationships with members, partners, stakeholders, and community groups
  • Manage, monitor, and update MACVSO social media accounts and MACVSO website
  • Attend meetings and events as assigned.
  • Prepare, maintain, present, and submit info for grant(s) and other funding sources
    • Track expenditures as required by Grant
    • Coordinate with Treasurer for necessary approvals
  • Track CVSO changeover, welcome new CVSOs by phone, email, or in person
  • Attends MACVSO Board meetings, advise and communicate with board, execute board directives
  • Meet with and communicate with MACVSO Committees
  • Attend appropriate legislative hearings at MN Capitol
  • Coordinate and schedule training
  • Create, maintain, and distribute “new CVSO information packet”
  • Prepare, maintain, coordinate information for taxes and non-profit status
  • Track training and CEUs
  • Coordinate and publicize MACVSO events
  • Coordinate and assist housing chair with Fall Conference Housing Plan
  • POC for cross accreditation with NACVSO
  • Provide leadership to our membership
  • Advise membership on organizational activities via (monthly/weekly/quarterly) written newsletter
  • Execute assigned projects
  • Work with training chair and MDVA Leadership to ensure training is created and hiring of training staff at the direction of the training chair
  • Attend meetings with President or on behalf of the president for the organization

Location: Remote, with up to 30-40% travel in Minnesota; limited travel outside Minnesota
 
Status: Full-Time, Contract position
 
Salary: $70,000-$90,000 annually, commensurate with experience

Minimum Requirements:

  • Veteran Status (preferred) as defined by:
    • MN Statute 197.447 OR
    • Federal active duty time.  Under federal law, a veteran is any person who served honorably on active duty in the armed forces of the United States. Discharges marked “general and under honorable conditions” also qualify. They would be considered a veteran no matter how long they served.
  • Bachelor’s degree with at least 2 years of non-profit management experience in the military/veteran services industry
  • High ethical history (background check)
  • Demonstrated outreach and relationship building experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree
  • Prior experience serving as a County Veteran Service Officer (CVSO);
  • Certified Veterans Advocate (CVA)
  • Excellence in organizational management and operations with the ability to manage complex projects, set and achieve strategic objectives, and manage a budget
  • Demonstrated success working with a Board of Directors with the ability to cultivate existing board member relationships
  • Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach to business planning
  • Demonstrated Project management experience
  • Public relations and marketing knowledge
  • Previous success in establishing relationships with individuals and organizations of influence including funders, partner agencies and volunteers

Paid Time off (PTO): No paid time off as this is a contract position.  However, MACVSO time off of 30 days/year can be taken with coordination/approval of the MACVSO President.
